Southern Utah University has named retired Judge Tom Higbee as Interim Director of Athletics, effective July 15. A Cedar City native and 1976 SUU graduate, Higbee brings a lifetime of leadership, service, and dedication to the Southern Utah community to his new role.
After earning his law degree from the University of Utah, Higbee returned home to practice law and later served over 17 years as a Juvenile Court Judge in Utah’s Fifth District, where he is widely respected for his compassion and steady leadership. His influence reached beyond the courtroom through his service on numerous statewide judicial committees and councils.
A longtime supporter of SUU, Higbee has served on the University’s Board of Trustees and Community Advisory Board, mentored students, supported arts and athletics, and taught as an adjunct instructor. He and his wife, Carolyn, remain deeply involved in the campus and local community, and together they have five sons and 13 grandchildren.
Higbee will guide SUU Athletics during this transitional period until a permanent Athletic Director is named.
