CEDAR CITY, Utah - Oct. 8 - Southern Utah cross country will host its lone home meet of the season when the Thunderbirds compete in the Color Country Invitational this weekend. SUU is scheduled to compete against Utah Valley, Idaho State and Dixie State when the race begins Saturday at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course.
“This is a fun weekend for us and gives our athletes a chance to compete at home,” head coach Eric Houle said of the meet. “It also gives our fans the chance to see our athletes. This meet will not be an easy one as the teams will be very competitive.”
Southern Utah will have its entire team ready to compete during the meet unlike previous years when the team had been split between two meets. The Thunderbirds will look to utilize the depth against in-state rival Utah Valley University. SUU has already posted a win on the men's and women's side against Idaho State after sweeping team titles in Pocatello during the first week of the season.
The meet will renew the sibling rivalry between SUU head coach Eric Houle and younger brother and UVU head coach Scott Houle. The meet will also give the T-Birds a break from deep national fields after back-to-back meets at Iona and Notre Dame that featured several regionally and nationally ranked opponents.
The break will be a short one as Southern Utah will travel to the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind. next weekend. The facility is the same course where the NCAA National Championship will be held on November 24.
The Color Country Invitational is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. with the men's race and the women's race to follow at 9:45 a.m.
