Thunderbirds Surrender Extra Opportunities in 52-37 Loss at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah - Dec. 20 - Southern Utah was on the short side by 22 shots to Utah State as the Aggies capitalized on 27 SUU turnovers and 27 offensive rebounds to hand the Thunderbirds a 52-37 loss on Saturday night.  The loss drops the T-Birds to 4-7 on the year while Utah State moves to 5-5.

The Thunderbirds dug a hole early in the first half, committing 16 turnovers over the first 20 minutes and allowing 13 offensive rebounds by the Aggies.  That difference led to almost double the amount of shots for USU, but only equated to an eight-point half time deficit of 19-27.

Southern Utah came out of the locker room and pulled to within on (31-31) as Caitlyn Sears connected on her second 3-point field goal of the evening with 13:19 on the clock.  However the Aggies then rolled to an 11-2 run to put the difference back into double figures (43-33).

The Thunderbirds didn't threaten again as the double-digit lead carried through to the final whistle with Utah State capturing the 52-37 victory.

Challis Pascucci led the Thunderbirds with nine points and a season-high 13 rebounds.  Ana Pares led the Aggies with ten points while Nicole Johnson pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Southern Utah will break for the Christmas holidays and resume play on January 1 when the Thunderbirds host Westminster College on the Centrum floor.  Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
