CEDAR CITY, Utah - June 30 - Southern Utah had close to a combined 200 student-athletes named to the Summit League Winter/Spring Academic All-League Team and the Summit League Commissioner's List of Excellence. Both awards required at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and participation in a season of their given sport.
The Thunderbirds had 110 student-athletes named to the Summit League Winter/Spring Academic All-League Team with the women's track & field team leading the way with 36 honorees. The women's team was followed by the men's track & field team with 20 and baseball with 16 student-athletes on the list. Women's basketball (nine), softball (nine), women's tennis (six), men's golf (five), women's golf (five) and men's basketball (four) rounded out the list of those honored.
Southern Utah had 73 student-athletes appearing on the Summit League Commissioner's List of Excellence, led by the women's cross country/track & field team with 22 honorees. The women harriers were followed by women's soccer, baseball and men's cross country/track & field with ten citations each. Softball (eight), men's golf (four), women's tennis (three), women's golf (two), women's basketball (two) and men's basketball (two) completed those honored.
In all, more than 1,700 student-athletes from 16 sports in the Summit League picked up academic honors from both lists.
