CEDAR CITY, Utah, Oct. 17 - Southern Utah University's Brad
Sorensen and
Akeem Anifowoshe have been named this week's Great West Conference
Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their play in the Thunderbirds'
20-7 Homecoming win over Cal Poly on Saturday.
Sorensen, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound sophomore quarterback from Grand
Terrace, Calif., averaged 14 yards per
completion, completing 18-of-22 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown with no
interceptions. He finished the game with a career-best efficiency rating of
193.42. His touchdown pass went 11-yards to last week's GWC Offensive Player of
the Week, Tysson Poots, in the second quarter. It was a score that wound up
being the game-winner.
Anifowoshe, a
5-foot-11, 210-pound linebacker from Las Vegas, Nev., tallied a
team-season-high 14 tackles, including 10 solo stops, another a team-best this
year. He also had one tackle in the Cal Poly backfield among his 10 solos as
the Thunderbird defense disrupted the Cal Poly option game all day long. His 14
tackles were one shy of his career-best.
It was Anifowoshe's
second player of the week honor this year and Sorensen's first. Anifowoshe was
also named following the season-opener at Wyoming, when he had 10 tackles,
including 3.5 tackles-for-loss and a sack.
