Thunderbirds Suffer Narrow Defeat at Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho – Sept. 4 -The women's cross country team had its first meet of the season on Saturday against the ISU Bengals at the Centennial Course in Pocatello. The Bengals defeated the Thunderbirds 27 to 30. Despite the defeat, the T-Birds are confident of success in the season ahead.

“I don't think we've missed a beat from last year, we are just as strong,” said head coach Eric Houle. “Our top five runners are so tightly packed in one through seven that it won't make a big difference that we didn't get first or second.”

Sylvia Bedford finished top for Southern Utah in second place, shaving sixteen seconds off her last season finish with a time of 10:27.00. Jamie Smith finished next with a time 10:51.00. Danielle West (11:06.00), Madalyn Jones (11:07.00) and Kristen Bradford (11:08.00) finished in seventh, eighth and ninth place respectively and completed Southern Utah's top five.

The cross country teams will be back to compete on September 18 at the UC Riverside Invitational in Riverside, Calif.
