Ari Lamb and Brooke Cersosimo Tie for All-Around Title as T-Birds Best Aggies

LOGAN, Utah - Jan. 7 - Southern Utah senior Ari Lamb and junior Brooke Cersosimo tied for the all-around title with matching 38.875's as the Thunderbirds posted a 193.475-192.800 victory over the Utah State Aggies in both squads season openers on Friday night.

"I am so proud of Ari and Brooke tonight," head coach Scott Bauman said after the meet.  "They did a great job competing in the all-around for the first time in their careers."

Southern Utah started the night on bars and were led by the first two performers in the lineup, Lamb and Lauren Jeffrey.  The senior and junior scored a 9.700 and 9.725 to place tied for second and fourth on the event overall, respectively.  After the first rotation the Thunderbirds trailed the Aggies 48.475 to 48.325.

The T-Birds continued to trail after the second rotation despite a quartet of 9.7's from Brooke Cersosimo, Lindsey Schultz, Caitlin Kennedy and Shannon Coughlin on vault.  The group finished second through fifth on the event, scoring a 9.775, 9.750, 9.725 and 9.700, respectively.  After the second rotation Southern Utah was behind Utah State 96.925 to 96.850.

The tide swung to the T-Birds' side during the third rotation as Southern Utah scored a 48.750 on the floor behind first-place finisher Coughlin with a 9.825 on the event, tying the Aggies' Lyndsie Boone.  Each scoring Thunderbird scored above a 9.700 on the event as Lamb (9.775), Pendley (9.725), Jeffrey (9.725) and Cersosimo (9.700) rounded out the team scores.  The performance vaulted SUU into the lead with a 145.600 to 144.475 advantage.

Lamb matched the 9.825 on beam, taking the individual title on the event.  Cersosimo joined her on the medal stand with a third-place finishing 9.750.  The Thunderbirds finished the rotation with a 47.875 as the team counted a fall on the event, but still held onto the victory 193.475-192.800.

Lamb and Cersosimo tied for the all-around title in the collegiate all-around debuts with matching 38.875's.  Boone led the Aggies in the all-around with a 38.850.

Southern Utah will be back in action next weekend when the Thunderbirds host the reigning NCAA National champion and No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Centrum Arena.
