SUMMIT LEAGUE GAMES IN CEDAR CITY
Southern Utah University returns home this week to host their first conference games of the season. The Western Illinois Leathernecks will be in town this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. That match will be followed by a visit by IUPUI scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Saturday's match will be the annual Breast Cancer Awareness game and will feature special prizes, concessions and souvenirs.
THUNDERBIRD SOCCER RECAP
Southern Utah revisited a great in-state rivalry earlier this week as they traveled to Orem, Utah to face the Utah Valley Wolverines. UVU jumped out to an early lead, but SUU would rally for a 3-3 draw. Elyse Osborne, Riley Bassett and Stacey Brinkman all recorded goal for the Thunderbirds.
LOOKING AHEAD
The T-Birds will play their final conference road games of the season when threy travel to IPFW and Oakland next week. SUU soccer will visit Fort Wayne, Indiana and Rochester, Michigan for the final time as a member of the Summit League.
ABOUT THE WESTERN ILLINOIS LEATHERNECKS
The Leathernecks are still looking for their first conference victory this season after falling in back-to-back matches against North and South Dakota State last week to drop to 0-4 in Summit Leage Play. The Thunderbirds hold a 5-3-2 advantage in the all-time meetings between the two schools, but were edged by the Leathernecks in a 1-0 decision last fall. Western Illinois is led by junior midfielder Miranda Graham who leads the team with three goals on the year. Head coach Tony Guinn is in fifth season at WIU where he has compiled a 42-25-10 record.
ABOUT THE IUPUI JAGUARS
The Jaguars are also looking for their first Summit League win after dropping home matches to North and South Dakota State last week. In last year's meeting IUPUI claimed a 1-0 victory over SUU to improve their all-time record to 6-2-2 against the Thunderbirds. The Jaguars are led by senior forward Megan Hock who with five goals is one of the top scorers in the conference. Head coach Chris Johnson is in ninth season at IUPUI where he has compiled a 61-73-12 record.
