SUU Soccer coach Brian Stock Resigns

CEDAR CITY, Utah Nov. 9 - Southern Utah Athletic Director Ken Beazer announced the resignation of women's soccer coach Brian Stock Wednesday. Stock has led the Thunderbird soccer program since its inception in 2001.

"We are sincerely grateful for the many years of service Coach Stock has given to our soccer program. His vision and leadership allowed him to successfully build SUU's soccer program from the ground up and he leaves a solid foundation for our future," commented Beazer. "It has been a pleasure to work closely with Coach Stock and I wish him and his family well in the new direction they have chosen. He is truly a leader in our profession."

Stock recently concluded his 11th season at the helm of the SUU women's soccer team where he has compiled a career record of 48-125-20. During his tenure on the Thunderbird bench, Coach Stock led SUU to six conference tournament spots, including four consecutive trips to the postseason between 2005 and 2008. His clubs were twice recognized among the top 20 most improved in the nation, first in 2004 and then again in 2005. He also has seen 17 players earn all-conference honors, 10 more garner conference tournament accolades, and 113 players named academic all-conference.

“It has been an amazing 11 year journey for my family and me. We have so many fond memories and relationships to look back upon,” said Stock of his time at SUU. “I want to thank the players I have had the opportunity to work with throughout the years who have made this job what it is.”

During his time at Southern Utah Stock helped many student-athletes to various outstanding achievements. Former Thunderbird soccer player Ashley Smith was named the valedictorian of her graduating class at SUU in 2006, while Kristen Fronk was named the Female Athlete of the Year in 2009. The Thunderbird soccer program also produced four CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorees under his watch.

Following the 2005 season Stock was the recipient of Co-Coach of the Year honors after his Thunderbird team posted an overall record of 7-4-6 with a 3-1-2 mark in the Mid-Continent Conference.

In addition to his work at SUU Stock has also been actively involved in competitive soccer in the southern Utah region where he served as a coaching director for the Utah Rush Soccer Club. He is also the founder and director of Thunderbird Soccer Schools.

“I am very grateful to have worked with and alongside so many great people. I give my thanks to President Benson, Ken Beazer and all the staff that have given support to our program through the years,” surmised Stock. “My family and I look forward to what the future holds.”
