CEDAR CITY, Utah - March 16 - Southern Utah University gymnastics will look to defend its 2010 conference title this weekend when the Thunderbirds compete at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in San Jose, Calif. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. (MT) with SUU slated to begin on the uneven bars.
The Thunderbirds will enter the meet as the second highest ranked squad in the conference, at No. 33 in the nation with Boise State leading the way as the Broncos are currently No. 13. The two teams entered the year with similar prognostications with BSU picked to win the WAC with four first-place votes with SUU second with two first-place votes.
Southern Utah will also enter the meet with a great deal of momentum as the team has scored two of its three highest scores over the past two meets. The T-Birds will also benefit in the return of junior Brooke Cersosimo on vault and beam, boosting the team's start value on vault by close to five-tenths.
SUU will begin the meet on bars and will move to the balance beam during its second rotation. Following a bye in the third rotation, the T-Birds will finish out the meet on floor and vault. Southern Utah will have its final bye during the sixth and final rotation.
