SUU Gymnastics Heading to Boise State for Final Road Meet

CEDAR CITY, Utah - March 2 - Southern Utah University gymnastics will have its final regular season road meet on Friday when the Thunderbirds travel to Boise, Idaho to face the Boise State Broncos.  The meet will pit the two favorites of the Western Athletic Conference going into the 2011 campaign.

The Thunderbirds will be without three of their top gymnastics as seniors Jenna Vogt and Bailey Pendley and junior Brooke Cersosimo will be out with season-ending injuries.  Cersosimo had been leading the team on vault and was ranked in the top three on bars and beam prior to her injury at Missouri last weekend.

Seniors Ari Lamb and Shannon Coughlin have paced the T-Birds on the other events with Lamb leading the way on bars and beam and Coughlin on floor.  Fellow senior, Lindsey Schultz is just behind Cersosimo on vault as all three seniors will now be looked at to keep up the strong performances, despite the bevy on injuries on the roster.

Head Coach Scott Bauman's Thoughts:  “We need to make some adjustments and make them quick and I know the team is totally capable of doing that.  Our team has shown a great deal of heart so far this season and I feel good about the things we are doing in the gym.  The team works hard and they approach practice the right way.”

About Boise State:  Boise State will be hosting its senior night when the Thunderbirds roll into town on Friday night.  The Broncos are riding a five-meet winning streak and have scored in the 195's and 196's over that span.

BSU has been led in the all-around this season by Amy Glass with a season-high 39.400 as the redshirt junior also leads the team with season highs on beam (9.925) and on the floor exercise (9.900).  Hailey Gaspar has recorded the top mark for the Broncos on the vault with a 9.950 with Brittany Potvin-Green and Hannah Redmond leading the team on bars with matching 9.900's.

Head coaches Tina Bird and Neil Resnick have shared the mantle of the Boise State program for three years, compiling an overall record of 43-13 over that span.
