Four Gridders Earn Preseason All-America Nods

CEDAR CITY, Utah, July 30 - Southern Utah University has had four football players named to the 100-man College Sports Network preseason all-American squad.

Offensive guard Zach Brackus (Salt Lake City) earned first-team honors, while quarterback Brad Sorensen (Grand Terrace, Calif.), center Gavin Farr (South Ogden, Utah) and defensive tackle Cody Larsen (Draper, Utah) all earned second-team nods. All four will be seniors in the fall of 2012.

Brackus is a three-year starter at the guard position for the Thunderbirds and a three-time all-Great West Conference selection. He has started every game the past three years and was also named to the preseason all-Big Sky squad as well as to The Sports Network all-American team.

Sorensen, who has surpassed the 3,100-yard passing mark in each of the past two seasons, holds nearly all but one Southern Utah single-season passing record as well as most single-game records and he is among the top-two in every career passing category. He was named the Big Sky Conference's preseason offensive player of the year earlier this month and was a two-time first-team all-GWC selection as well as that conference's offensive MVP last year. Earlier this summer Sorensen was named The Sports Network's first-team preseason all-America quarterback.

Larsen is another three-year starter, largely at tackle, but he has lined up in every position on the defensive line the past three years. He is a two-time all-GWC selection and has been among the team's top three defensive linemen in terms of tackles-for-loss and sacks the past two years.

Like Sorensen, Farr is a two-time first-team all-Great West Conference performer, and he was named the league's offensive lineman of the year in 2010 as a redshirt freshman.
