SUU Falls to Utah State in Exhibition

LOGAN, Utah, 8/11/12 – The Southern Utah University Women's Soccer team opened its fall season with an exhibition match against Utah State for the second straight year on Saturday, and for the second time the Aggies came away with a 1-0 victory.

USU came out firing in the contest, recording 15 shots in the opening period, nearly half of which were on goal. Thunderbird goalkeeper Charly Booth was able to keep the Aggies off the board however, making seven saves to keep the match scoreless at the break.

The Utah State offense would eventually break through in the sixty-first minute as junior midfielder Kendra Pemberton took a pass from teammate Jennifer Flynn just outside the left post and fired a shot into the back of the net for the lone goal of the match.

SUU was unable to keep pace with the Aggies who outshot the T-Birds by a count of 23-3 in the game and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior forward Sabrina Hernandez and freshman Sydney Cook accounted for all three of Southern Utah's shots in the contest while Booth finished the day with eight saves in goal.

Southern Utah will open the regular season with a home match next week against UC-Riverside. The Thunderbirds and Highlanders will square off at the Thunderbird Soccer Field on Aug. 19 at 4 p.m.
