GEICO Play of the Year Announced on CBS Thanksgiving Weekend
CHICAGO, Sept. 16, 2012 - Southern Utah senior wide receiver Cameron
Morgan's incredible Hail Mary touchdown catch against California on
September 8 is nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport
announced today. Each week, fans vote for the GEICO Play of the Year and the
winner will be announced on GEICO Best of College Football 2012 on CBS
Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
In
addition to recognizing the season's top plays, the one-hour CBS special
relives the season's greatest moments, players and traditions. The show also
marks the culmination of the GEICO "Best of 2012" Football Tour, an interactive
fan experience that visits 30 marquee games throughout the football season.
Each
week for eight weeks, four incredible college football plays will be nominated
as the Play of the Year on the GEICO Best of College Football Facebook page (facebook.com/bestofcollegefootball). The eight weekly winners will then faceoff in a week of finals voting
from November 4 through 11 to determine the 2012 GEICO Play of the Year.
With
no time remaining in the first half, Southern Utah took one last shot at a
score from the California 37-yard line. Quarterback Brad Sorensen dropped back
and heaved a high pass toward the back of the end zone where Morgan was able to
fend off two Bears defenders to come down with the ball as he was falling to
the ground. Morgan controlled the ball as his left knee landed in the end zone
and he fell out of bounds. The score brought the Thunderbirds within 10, but
the Bears turned it on in the fourth, winning 50-31. To view the play, visit: http://bit.ly/O48Av1.
Morgan's
Hail Mary touchdown catch is competing against three other plays from week two,
including a "tip drill" interception by Bowling Green's Josh Pettus, a game-winning
touchdown scramble by Louisiana-Monroe's Kolton Browning and a
broken-tackle filled run by Taylor University's Robbie Robbins.
