Thunderbird Cal Hanks Recognized by NABC Honors Court

CEDAR CITY, Utah, July 23 – Southern Utah University's Cal Hanks was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court this week for his outstanding academic performance last season. The distinguished award recognizes student-athletes who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher through their junior or senior season.

Hanks started 19 games for the Thunderbird basketball team in 2013-14, averaging 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds. He also blocked 16 shots to increase his career total to 52, the eighth highest mark in SUU history.

The Logan, Utah native (Mountain Crest HS) will enter his final season of eligibility at Southern Utah with his bachelor's degree in communications already in hand. He is set to begin graduate school this fall while competing for the T-Birds.

The NABC honored a total of 895 student-athletes from 338 colleges and universities this year, representing the largest group ever to receive the award.
