The Sports Network Announces James Cowser as a Defensive Player of the Year Candidate

Football SUU Strategic Communication

James Cowser is a FCS Academic All-Star

Columbus, Ohio – For the 17th year, the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association released the list of 50 winners on the Academic All-Star team this morning and SUU defensive lineman James Cowser was on it.

Cowser has held a 3.99 GPA in his undergrad program at SUU and is now enrolled in the communications graduate program. The FCS ADA also selected him as a top 10 finalist for the Postgraduate scholarship they give out every year, worth $5,000.

Cowser has proven himself to be an exemplary student-athlete on the field, or off, picking up numerous postseason awards, including the one announced today.

“James is such a great example of what an honors candidate should be: hard-working, self-motivated, and humble.  I am honored to be his coach, and I am confident that he would want to share the recognition with his team mates and the Southern Utah University campus,” Head Coach Ed Lamb said about Cowser.

I addition to the academic award received today, Cowser was also named to the Walter Payton FCS All-American First Team, as well as the Sports Network All-American Second Team. The Associate Press also recognized him on their All-American Second Team.
