CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds men's basketball team travels to The Golden State with back-to-back road games against Loyola Marymount on Thursday, Dec. 7, and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Taking on Loyola first, the Lions hold a 2-3 record after picking up wins over Vanguard and Portland State. Loyola has fallen to Nevada, UConn, and Boise State.
The Lions' most recently lost to Boise State in a tight 79-80 battle.
Brandon Brown currently leads the Lions, averaging 12.4 points per game. Buay Tuach follows closely behind, averaging 11.6 per game.
“We're excited for another opportunity to get road wins. Loyola Marymount is a senior laden team that will give us different looks defensively,” head coach Todd Simon said. “They are coming off close games with Connecticut and Boise State, so it will be a formidable test.”
Following the Lions match-up, the Thunderbirds face Cal State Fullerton.
The Titans hold a 3-5 record, picking up wins over Cal Tech, Portland State, and Pacific.
Similar to SUU, the Titans fell to UNLV 68-77 as SUU fell to UNLV 81-89, lining the teams up for a close match-up on Saturday.
The Titans are currently led by Tre' Coggins with 20 points per game. Lionheart Leslie and Jackson Rowe follow, averaging 10.9 points each.
“On Saturday we face an up-and-coming Fullerton team,” Simon said. “They are 3-1 at home and are led by Tre' Coggins who is scoring it at a high rate.”
Randy Onwuasor continues to lead the Thunderbirds in scoring this season, averaging 20.3 per game. Onwuasor's 20.3 average marks him the fourth leading scorer in the Big Sky.
Ivan Madunic averages 1.3 blocks per game, ranking him fourth in the BSC.
As a team, the Thunderbirds currently lead the BSC in offensive rebounding.
“Our young squad is improving by the day,” Simon said. “We are amidst a stretch where we play one home game in 43 days while making trips to Michigan, three stops in California, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and North Dakota.”
