CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University athletics department's emphasis on the importance of student success became clearly apparent once again as the Big Sky Conference released its 2015 Fall All-Academic honor roll.

Southern Utah University had 53 student-athletes named to the academic teams released by the conference.  There were nearly 600 total students on the All-Academic list for 12 Big Sky Conference schools for the fall semester.

SUU Director of Athletics Jason Butikofer said, “Academic excellence is at the forefront of our priorities.  I have been extremely impressed with the commitment and success achieved by the young men and women that comprise our student athlete population.   The Fall semester is a great example of the continued proud tradition of academic achievement within the Southern Utah Athletic Department.”

The teams included on the honor roll were football, volleyball, soccer and men's and women's cross country. 

Football led the way with 17 athletes being recognized for their dedication to academics. SUU's soccer team had 16 student-athletes on the team.

SUU Provost Brad Cook said, “We are very proud of our student athletes.  I appreciate our exceptional coaching staff for continually emphasizing the priority of academic performance, and for these students working diligently to be successful both in the classroom and on the field.”

The men's and women's cross country teams were also among the best in the Big Sky with eight and five athletes on the all-academic squads respectively.

The SUU volleyball team also added seven members of their team to the All-Academic list for Southern Utah.

To be eligible for the Big Sky's All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) Participated in at least half of the team's competitions; 2) Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the conclusion of the most recently completed term; 3) Completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
