Three T-Birds At NFL Combine

Cedar City, UT--Southern Utah University's football program gains additional national attention this week as three players from the 2015 Big Sky Championship team display their wares at the NFL Combine in front of scouts, team officials, reporters and fans.

The multi-day event includes defensive end James Cowser, defensive back LeShaun Sims and defensive safety Miles Killebrew.  SUU is sending three players to the same Combine for the first time in history.  They will represent 75% of the players from the entire Big Sky Conference, with the fourth coming from Montana State.

There will be 331 players in Indianapolis for the scouting combine.  The pro prospects have been arriving for the past couple of days.

All three SUU players had one national stage already this year to showcase some of their abilities.  Cowser and Sims played in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game on January 23rd in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Killebrew played in the Reese's Senior Bowl game in Mobile, Alabama, on January 30.

All three players have garnered attention for their many and varied accomplishments during this past season, but Miles Killebrew has been gaining more attention by reporters as the Combine got closer.

NFL Media Analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently listed Killebrew as one of five players he thinks can really improve his stock in the draft with a strong showing during the Combine. Jeremiah said,

“Killebrew is a fun player to watch on tape. He lines up as a box safety and he delivers some "wow" hits in just about every game. It's easy to spot his speed and explosiveness on the screen, and that will translate to impressive testing numbers. Last spring, scouts timed him in the mid-4.4s at close to 230 pounds. He's since dropped his weight to around 217 pounds, which means he could potentially run a sub-4.4 40-yard dash. As an added bonus, he's viewed as one of the highest character players in the entire draft class. He's likely to go in the late-second/early-third-round range.”

Each February hundreds of the very best college football players are invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, where executives, scouts and doctors from all 32 NFL teams conduct an intense, four-day job interview in advance of the NFL Draft.

Players undergo all manner of testing, measurement and evaluation to help teams make educated decisions on draft day.  Players will participate in the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 3-cone drill, and shuttle run.

Position players undergo specialized drills to showcase their talents for specific positions.  There is unlimited information about the Combine on the NFL's website.
