CEDAR CITY, Utah - After the conclusion of the 2016 NFL Draft on Saturday, four Thunderbirds were signed to teams in the National Football League as free agents.
James Cowser was picked up by the Oakland Raiders, heading into the NFL as one of the most decorated players in SUU football history. Cowser was named FCS ADA Defensive Player of the Year and Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year after the previous season, along with several other honors in addition to those two.
Anthony Norris signed with the Denver Broncos after a big performance at SUU's Pro Day and a Third Team All-Big Sky performance during the 2015 season. The All-Big Sky selection was for his performance as a fullback.
Quarterback Ammon Olsen was signed by the Indianapolis Colts, after a solid two season in Southern Utah. Olsen the All-Big Sky Third Team quarterback after becoming the single-season passing leader in SUU history. Olsen participated in the 2016 NLFPA Bowl after the conclusion of the season.
Olsen wasn't the only former Thunderbird to sign with Indianapolis, as former T-Bird punter Brock Miller signed with the Colts as a free agent.
These four signings came on the heels of Miles Killebrew and LeShaun Sims being drafted into the National Football League.
