CEDAR CITY, Utah - After a weekend off from competition the Thunderbird track and field teams will be back at it this weekend as they split up between a pair of meets.
Part of the team will be competing at the Husky Classic in Seattle, while the other part of the team will be in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete in the Don Kirby Invitational.
Last Time Out
The last time the Thunderbirds were on the track they continued to do what they have done all season: break records.
SUU's distance medley relay set a new school record with a 9:48.48, as Kasey Knevelbaard, Brandan Harley, George Espino and Josh Collins worked in sync to hit the time. This is also the top mark in the Big Sky Conference by a wide margin. Matt Wright also broke into the SUU record book in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14:14.78.
Sharlie Dimick ran the sixth fastest time in SUU history with a 4:58.58 in the women's mile, Linnea Saltz now ranks sixth all time for SUU in the 400-meter with a 56.68 and Liam Kennell put himself eighth all time with a 4:08.02 in the men's mile. All of those marks were set at the UW Invitational.
In Pocatello, Idaho, Devon Montgomery had a 8.23 in the 60-meter hurdles which is the sixth fastest time in SUU history. Carly Dalton now ranks seventh for SUU all time in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.06 and Peyton Green now ranks 10th all time for SUU in the 200-meter with a 25.22.
Words From Coach Houle
“I think everything's going pretty well with the throwers, the sprinters and the distance team on both sides,” SUU head coach Eric Houle said. “We head off to Seattle, this is the second time we've gone to Seattle and that's where we need to go to chase performances for the distance and middle distance team. We're sending the sprinters and the throwers to Albuquerque, and that's more of a power meet so they'll face a lot of schools from the South, so hopefully it will inspire them to establish some better marks.”
