CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Southern Utah Thunderbirds track and field team will once again split its roster across multiple competitions this week, sending athletes to the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Utah Spring Classic, and the Weber State Spring Classic. The meets provide a mix of national competition and regional opportunities as the Thunderbirds continue building momentum midway through the outdoor season.

"This marks the start of two exciting weeks of competition at Mt. Sac and Azusa Pacific, beginning with the decathlon and heptathlon. It's a great chance for our athletes to improve their scores and boost their standing in the conference."

Men's Last Time Out
Southern Utah's men were highlighted by Joshua Hernandez, who won the men's 5,000 meters at the UNLV Rebels ELITE with a time of 15:08.63 and also placed seventh at the event's 1,500 meters with a personal-best 4:02.24. At the Stanford Invitational, Kadan Allen placed second in the men's 800 meters in 1:49.60, while Richard Crane finished sixth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:49.91. Tyler Myrup added a third-place finish and personal best in the 400 meters (48.10), while Isley Gutierrez placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.16). In the field events, Dallan Demille (49.11m) and Zsombor Takacs (48.18m) finished second and third in the discus, while Bronis MacDougall placed third in the javelin (64.61m). Wilmarson Van Hecke added a fifth-place finish and personal best in the hammer throw (55.07m). The Thunderbirds also saw strong relay performances, with the men's 4x400-meter relay finishing third in a season-best 3:15.69.
Women's Last Time Out
The Thunderbird women were led by Jaylee Gandert, who won the women's javelin with a throw of 47.05 meters. Sydney Gibson posted a personal-best 14.35 to place ninth in the 100-meter hurdles and added a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.89). Claire Hoenes recorded a personal-best performance in the 800 meters, finishing fourth in 2:25.92. In the throws, Jessica Jericoff placed fifth in the hammer throw (53.60m), Brooke Lynch finished seventh in the discus (40.57m) and eighth in the hammer (50.75m), and Chayanne Gordon placed fifth in the shot put with a season-best 13.06 meters. The women's sprint group was led by personal-best performances from Timmia Rucks (12.15) and Sabrina Wright (12.42) in the 100 meters, while the 4x100-meter relay team ran a season-best 47.32 to finish eighth.
