CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Thunderbird volleyball team will play their first home match of the 2017 season on Tuesday evening, when they host the Wolverines of Utah Valley University.

The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. inside the Centrum Arena.

Last Time Out

Senior Macky Fifita was the driving force for the Thunderbirds at the 2017 Charlotte Invitational, and was named to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the event on Saturday. Fifita finished with 64 kills, 45 digs and 69 total points at the event. Freshman Mckenzie Van Uitert led the team with 60 digs in North Carolina, and sophomore Alexis Averett dished out 106 assists. Freshman Janet Kalaniuvalu also had a major impact on the offensive side, with 43 kills.

The Thunderbirds finished 1-3 in Charlotte, knocking off South Carolina State in their first match on Saturday.   

Opponent Preview: UVU

The Wolverines are coming off a weekend in California, where they participated in the SJSU / USF Invitational. While in the Golden State UVU took on Pepperdine, Fresno State and Nevada, falling in all three matches. UVU ended up on the wrong side 3-1 against their first three opponents.

Senior Lexi Thompson led the offensive attack for UVU in California, finishing with 34 kills and a .210 hitting percentage. Senior Madison Dennison wasn't far behind, finishing with 32 kills on 85 attempts. Fellow senior Sierra Starley dished out 101 assists for UVU.

Following the match in Cedar City the Wolverines will be hosting an invitational where they will host No. 8 Kansas, Montana and Long Beach State.
