CEDAR CITY, Utah - After winning two big five-set matches at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic, the Thunderbirds look to improve upon their 5-6 record for the season. They will be competing against Utah State at home this Friday evening.
Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Thunderbirds put up a lot of time on the court. They played 14 sets in just three matches. Their first match came in the form of a thrilling five-set victory against Liberty University. Next, they came up against Air Force and saved a couple match points to win again in five sets. Finally, they fell to Air Force in their final match.
Janet Kalaniuvalu and
MaCail Evans led the team with some high caliber hitting and blocking. They both were selected for the All-Tournament team with Kalaniuvalu delivering 40 kills for the tournament and Evans causing 23 blocks in their three matches.
Opponent Preview: Utah State University
Utah State currently has a 7-4 record on the season. They are led by senior, Lauren Anderson. She has hit 154 kills and a put up .272 hitting percentage for the season so far. The Aggies will be looking to slow down the efforts of Kalaniuvalu, Evans, and
Macky Fifita. Along with being named to the all-tournament team last weekend, Evans is ranked second in the nation for total blocks with 67. Furthermore, Fifita is 8th in the nation for total kills with 168.
