CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah soccer team fell to the Idaho Vandals 0-2 Friday evening in what was their second to last match of the season.
"I thought we started out pretty well. Got a lot of corner kicks, were on top of them in the first 20 minutes," head coach Fred Thompson said. "When you're on top the goal is to score goals and unfortunately we gave up two goals with 10 minutes left in the half."
The Vandals took the lead in the 36th minute of play as Kelly Dopke headed in a corner kick. They would go up 2-0 less than a minute later on a strike from Myah Merino.
The Thunderbirds created plenty of opportunities for themselves, but were not able to find the back of the net.
Brianna Aldridge finished with nine saves in the match, bringing her within four saves of the SUU single-season saves record with one game left to play.
"We want to be able to send the seniors off well with a victory and I would like to see it be one of our better performances," Thompson said. "For everyone coming back, this is the first step into next season."
The Thunderbirds will host the Eastern Washington Eagles on Sunday October 21 for Senior Day.
