CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Southern Utah University volleyball team will travel to Greeley, Colorado on Thursday, October 11 to play Northern Colorado University.

"Northern Colorado is a good team. They are extremely good defensively, that's their thing," head coach Pete Hoyer said. "At this point in the season everyone has their own thing going which makes it a dog fight every time. We hope to get to Greeley and paint it red with our emotion and compete."

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds are coming off a packed six days of conference play that included three matches. SUU fell 3-2 in a heartbreaking five set match to Montana then also fell 3-1 to Montana State and Northern Arizona. SUU is now 2-17, 1-6 Big Sky Conference play.  

Janet Kalaniuvalu led the Thunderbirds in kills throughout all three matches with 64 in all. Emma Mangum had an impressive weekend, coming in second for total kills with 41.  Miranda Canez posted 15 total blocks, nine of them coming from the Montana match. Miahna Waters had the most digs for the Thunderbirds with 63.

Opponent Preview: University of Northern Colorado (7-8, 3-3 Big Sky)

The Bears lost to Weber State 3-2 and Idaho State 0-3 in last weeks play.

Kourtney Lockey leads the Bears offense with 177 kills on the season, averaging 3.40 kills per set. Middle blocker Lauren Hinrichs is first in blocks averaging 0.46 per set and third in kills averaging 2.67. Defensively the Bears depend on defensive specialist Taylor Els who averages 5.15 digs per set and Lockey who averages 3.06 digs per set.

In their last meeting SUU fell to UNC 3-1 on Nov. 9, 2017.
