LOGAN, Utah - Freshman gymnast Shylen Murakami has been named Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Bars Specialist of the Week for her performance in Friday night's meet against No. 7 Boise State.
Murakami led the way on bars for the Flippin' Birds, earning a 9.875 for her near flawless routine. The Las Vegas native was named Bars Event Champion at the end of the night as she had the highest score on the event for either team.
"After last week we just wanted to put Shy in on one event and let her settle down," head coach Scotty Bauman said. "Her bar routine was phenomenal. It was good to see her do that."
The Thunderbirds went on to achieve a team score of 48.900 on the event.
This is the first conference honor for Murakami, winning the award after competing in just two meets so far in her career.
