CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah gymnastics team will return home this Friday February 1 to host Utah State inside the America First Event Center.
Last Time Out
The Flippin' Birds are coming off of their first road meet in which they scored a season-high 195.525.
As a team, they set new event season-highs on vault and floor, scoring a 49.025 on vault and a 49.150 on floor. Morgan Alfaro and Stephanie Tervort both scored team highs of 9.850 on vault and Molly Jozwiakowski and Karley McClain had the same score over on floor.
Tervort and Alfaro are now ranked in the top 70 vaulters in the country with Tervort at 44 and Alfaro at 68.
"I'm seeing a lot of our younger girls going out there and they're getting better and better every single meet," head coach Scotty Bauman said. "That whole group is getting such good experience while others are still working their way back. I am really proud of some of the things I saw out there tonight and we know we have so much room still for improvement."
Scouting Report: Utah State Aggies (1-4)
The Aggies come into the weekend in a similar state to the Flippin' Birds. They posted their highest score of the season so far, a 194.850, last week in their second meet against BYU. Before that the Aggies scored a 193.950 against the Cougars and a 194.600 in a quad meet hosted by Pittsburgh.
Senior Madison Ward-Sessions was named MRGC Gymnast of the Week in week two and has also taken home Vault Specialist of the Week and Floor Specialist of the Week honors already this season.
The Aggies finished third at the MRGC Championship meet last year and narrowly missed qualifying for NCAA Regional competition. Head coach Amy Smith is in her second season at the helm of the program.
Meet Info
Friday's meet is set to start at 7:00 p.m. Mountain time inside the AFEC. The meet is a Rivalry Redout meet and fans are encouraged to wear red. The first 300 fans will receive a free red SUU Gymnastics T-Shirt.
The meet will be live streamed on PlutoTV channel 236 and live stats will be available at suutbirds.com.

Tickets for the Flippin' Birds' next home meet on February 1 against Utah State are available at tbirdtickets.com or the America First Event Center Ticket Office. Fans can also purchase a Women's Sports Pass for access to all 2019 regular season home meets.
