CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah soccer team earned a double-overtime 0-0 draw with the Montana Grizzlies Sunday afternoon for their first non-loss of the season.
Goalkeeper Isabella Whitmore made 12 saves in the match, keeping the Grizzlies off the board for the full 110 minutes of play. MaKenzie Lawrence took three shots, two on goal, while Madison DeHerrera and Jaylynn Barton took two shots each.
The Grizzlies outshot the Thunderbirds 22-10 while SUU only committed four fouls to Montana's 13.
The Thunderbirds had their best opportunity in the 39th minute of play when Lawrence was fouled in the box by a Montana player and was awarded a penalty kick. Lawrence sent her kick to the right side of the goal, but Montana's goalkeeper was able to get a hand on the ball and make the save.
The Thunderbirds will hit the road next week for matches with Idaho and Eastern Washington.
