PREVIEW | Southern Utah Volleyball Prepares to Take On Undefeated Northern ColoradoÂ
CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird volleyball programs will travel to Greeley, Colorado this Saturday, October 26, to try and knock off the 8-0 (BSC) Northern Colorado Bears. The match will be played at 2:00 p.m. and will be available for viewers on Pluto TV.Â
"Northern Colorado has proved to be the toughest competitor thus far in conference," said head coach Pete Hoyer. "But at this point, everyone is playing five set matches and it's a continuous grind. If we execute then Saturday's match could very well be ours to take home."
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds played Northern Arizona University on Monday evening where they fell 3-1. The loss put SUU in seventh within Big Sky standings, with a 11-10 overall record, 4-5 in BSC.Â
Shannon Webb led the Thunderbirds in kills with 22 total. Stacey Hone had 16 and Thea Leiataua finished with 14. Corrin Peterson led in assists with 54. Defensively, Sarah Gasper led SUU with 19 digs, followed by Webb who had 16.Â
Opponent Preview: University of Northern Colorado Bears (14-6 Overall, 8-0 BSC)
The Bears are tallied extending their unblemished Big Sky record last week as they downed Sacramento State 3-1 and Portland State 3-0. UNC sits in the No. 1 position within Big Sky rankings.Â
Northern Colorado will travel to Northern Arizona on Thursday, October 24, to face the Lumberjacks before returning home to compete against SUU.Â
Kailey Joe Ince leads the Bears in kills with 282 on the season, averaging 3.62 kills per set. Daisy Schultz totals 837 assists, averaging 10.73 assists per set. Kendall Feather leads the BSC and the Bears in total services aces with 33 on the season. Defensively, the Bears look to Taylor Els who has 214 digs, averaging 4.55 digs per set.Â
The last time the Thunderbirds saw the Bears was at home on November 7, 2018 where SUU fell 3-2.Â
Saturday's match will be the only regular conference meeting between Southern Utah and Northern Colorado.Â
