RECAP | Thunderbird Volleyball Swept by Bears in Colorado
GREELEY, Colorado -- The Southern Utah volleyball team traveled to Greeley, Colorado this Saturday where they fell 3-0 to the University of Northern Colorado Bears. The loss moved the Thunderbirds to 11-11 overall, 4-6Â in Big Sky Conference play.
The score knotted early in set one at 5-5 but the Bears found their rhythm first, going on a 6-0 scoring run which put them up by seven at 16-8. As play continued Northern Colorado kept ahold of their lead, taking the set by 10 at 25-15.Â
Set two was controlled by the Bears until 13-6 where SUU went on a 3-0 scoring run, coming within four of Northern Colorado at 13-9. The Thunderbirds then fell behind by seven at the 20 point mark where UNC led 20-13. SUU wasn't able to catch the Bears as they closed the second 25-15.
The Thunderbirds trailed the Bears by eight at 11-3 before calling their first timeout of the set. Coming out of the break, Northern Colorado extending their lead ten at 20-10. SUU wasn't able to catch the Bears as they took the set 25-15, earning a 3-0 match win.Â
Katie Montgomery led the Thunderbirds in kills with seven on the evening. She was followed by Stacey Hone and Shannon Webb who had five a piece. Corrin Peterson dished out 61 assists. Peterson also led in digs with 10.Â
Next Up
The Thunderbirds will start their second round of Big Sky play on Thursday, October 31, in Ogden, Utah where they will meet the Wildcats of Weber State University. The match will start at 7:00 p.m.
