CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon have announced the signing of Jason Spurgin.
"Jason is a big, versatile player with huge upside," Simon said. "He's got an excellent basketball IQ and is very motivated to be the best that he can be. We are extremely excited to welcome him to the program."
Spurgin is from Toowoomba, Australia, and will join fellow Aussie Jarryd Hoppo on the roster for the Thunderbirds.
Standing 6'11", Spurgin will join the Thunderbirds at the center position.
While playing for Toowomba Grammar School he averaged 24 points per game, 15 rebounds per game and three blocks per game. Spurgin was recently selected for the U20 Queensland 2019/2020 state team and is a development player for the Brisbane Bullets.
Playing in the Queensland Basketball League in 2019, he's averaged 5.1 ppg and 5.2 rpg in 11 starts. He plays for the Toowoomba Mountaineers in the league
The QBL is a semi-professional basketball league in Australia.
He currently attends Toowoomba Grammar School where he is the team captain.
