CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird women's basketball team and head coach Tracy Sanders have announced the team's 2019 Fall signing class, introducing four future T-Birds.
Daylani Ballena, PG, 5-8, Kent, Wash. (Kentridge High School)
Joining the Thunderbirds from Kent, Washington, Southern Utah has announced the signing of Daylani Ballena.
Daylani is a dynamic point guard," Sanders said. "She's shifty, hard to guard, can get to the rim but also has great vision. Dayla also loves to defend. We're very excited to add another fast guard to our line-up."
The 5' 8" point guard most recently has played for Kentridge High School and the NW Blazers.
"The best decision I've ever made was to become a T-Bird," Ballena said.
Kinsley Barrington, F, 6-1, Orem, Utah (Timpview High School)
Adding to Southern Utah's forward depth from Orem will be Kinsley Barrington.
"Kinsley was a perfect fit from the moment we met her," Sanders said. "She is extremely hard-working and does all of the little things on the court. Kins can play with her back to the basket, but also has three point range. She is a glue player that knows how to make her teammates better. I love the energy she'll bring to our team."
Barrington also plays club for the NW Blazers, and is a 6' 1" forward. She plays high school basketball for Timpview High School.
"I have been excited for this day to arrive from the first time I spoke with Coach Sanders and the rest of the staff at SUU," Barrington said. "I knew this would be a place to call home. I look forward to giving my all to the program, school and community."
Camille Carpenter, G, 5-10, Moses Lake, Wash. (Moses Lake High School)
Another future Thunderbird moving from Washington to Cedar City is Camille Carpenter.
"Camille is an extraordinary athlete and just a great fit here," Sanders said. "She makes us even faster on the offensive end and is also a lockdown defender. Her work ethic embodies the culture we are building here."
She is a guard standing 5' 10" that plays for Moses Lake High School and the Way to Win club team.
"I'm really looking forward to joining the T-Bird family and having so many new experiences," Carpenter said. "I am also excited to be coached by such an amazing staff in a wonderful city."
Pyper Thornberry, F, 6-2, Canberra, Australia (Lake Ginninderra College High School)
Pyper Thornberry, from Canberra, Australia, will join fellow Australians Claudia Armato and Rebecca Black when she makes her way to Cedar City.
"Pyper has a ton of versatility making her really difficult to match up with," Sanders said. "She can play on the perimeter as well as in the post and is comfortable handling the ball. She has a great IQ for the game. We are excited to add another Aussie to the roster."
Joining the group for forwards for the Thunderbirds standing 6' 2", she currently plays for Lake Ginninderra College High School.
"College basketball has been a dream for me," Thornberry said. "Ever since I stepped on campus I knew this was the place for me. I'm looking forward to being surrounded by a great team and coaching staff and helping the T-Birds achieve our goals."
