CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Southern Utah football coaches Justin Walterscheid and Teag Whiting will not return for the 2020 season, while Brandon Fisher has decided to move on from the program to pursue other opportunities. Walterscheid served as SUU's assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, Whiting was SUU's tight ends coach and Fisher was the defensive coordinator for the Thunderbirds.
The department and program would like to thank both Walterscheid and Whiting for their years of service to Southern Utah University. They were both part of two Big Sky Conference Championship runs, and guiding the T-Birds to multiple FCS Playoff appearances.
"Justin and Teag have been a part of the best eight year stretch in SUU history," Warren said. "I'm grateful for their contributions to the program and the community throughout the years. As a head coach, staff changes might be the hardest thing we have to deal with. But I will strive to fill these positions with new leadership that will bring us back to the position we were in just a few seasons ago."
The T-Birds finished the 2019 season with a 3-9 overall record, following up a 2018 campaign that saw the team finish 1-10.
