Lady T-Birds Drop Road Contest With Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. - The Southern Utah women's basketball team dropped a rematch with Eastern Washington Thursday night 66-80 in Cheney.

Ashley Larsen and Harley Hansen both had 17 points in the loss. Hansen added five rebounds and three steals. Rebecca Cardenas had 14 points and led the team in rebounds and steals with seven and five respectively.

The Eagles shot 52.8 percent from the field while holding the Thunderbirds to just 36.8 percent.

It was a close contest in the first half with the T-Birds holding a five-point lead in the opening quarter. The Eagles were able to turn that into an eight-point lead for themselves early in the second quarter, but SUU cut it to six by halftime.

Eastern Washington's offense exploded in the second half scoring 23 points in the third quarter and 27 points in the fourth. The Thunderbirds were able to match their fourth quarter scoring with 27 of their own, but couldn't gain any ground on the Eagles.

The Thunderbirds split the season series with the Eagles after winning the first matchup in Cedar City 73-63.

Southern Utah will be back in action Saturday in Moscow, Idaho against the Idaho Vandals.
