SAN DIEGO, California - The Southern utah softball team wrapped up a three-game series with the University of San Diego Sunday afternoon with a 2-7 loss to the Toreros.
Dream Weaver, Kendall Kapitzke, and Hannah Williams all had two hits in the game with Kapitzke going 2-for-2 with a walk. Megan Bull and Madison Tuft also each had a hit in the game with Tuft scoring a run on a steal of home.
Tuft finishes the weekend with a hit in each game in the series, the only Thunderbird to do so. Dream Weaver had the most hits in the series with four, finishing 4-for-9.
For the third time in the series, the Thunderbirds scored in the first inning. Tuft reached base on a single, moved to second base on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Bull, and then stole home. They scored again as Dream Weaver came home on a throwing error by the USD catcher.
The Toreros answered back in the bottom half of the inning with four runs to take the lead. They extended their lead to 7-2 in the fifth inning with three more runs.
Despite collecting five more hits, the Thunderbirds wouldn't be able to score again.
The T-Birds will return home and get ready to host the Red Desert Classic next weekend at the Canyons Complex in St. George from March 1-3.
