SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Southern Utah softball team wrapped up a three-game series with Sacramento State Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 win over the Hornets.
Senior Hanna Wynn earned the win in the circle for the Thunderbirds, pitching all seven innings and giving up just nine hits and two runs while striking out three Hornets.
Dream Weaver went 2-for-4 in the win, scoring a run in the third inning. Hannah Williams was 1-for-2 with a RBI double.
The Thunderbirds opened the scoring in the second inning as Kendall Kapitzke reached base after she was hit by a pitch and Williams bunted her over to second base. She would come around to score on a fielding error by the Hornet's shortstop to make it 1-0.
They were then able to add three more runs in the third inning, highlighted by Williams' double to bring home Kapitzke once again and make it 4-0 T-Birds.
The Hornets chipped away in the fourth and fifth innings, but were only able to score just one run in each inning as Wynn worked herself out of a couple of jams. She gave up just two hits over the final two innings, silencing the Hornets and securing the 4-2 victory.
The Thunderbirds will now return home and host the UMKC Kangaroos on Wednesday March 27 for their first games of the season at Kathryn Berg Field.
