PORTLAND, Ore. - The Southern Utah softball team fell in extra innings to Portland State Friday afternoon 3-2. The teams started to play game two, but after three batters the game was postponed until tomorrow due to rain the area.
Four Thunderbirds had hits in the game including Dream Weaver who went 1-for-3 and extended her current hitting streak to 20 games. Weaver and Makall Whetten both had RBIs and Whetten and Skyler Ball scored the Thunderbirds' only runs.
The game remained scoreless through the first two innings until the Thunderbirds scored in the third. Whetten knocked in Skyler Ball from second base with a double to score the first run and then Weaver brought her home with a single to left to make it 2-0.
The Vikings got one back in the bottom of the inning and then tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth. Neither team would be able to break the tie, sending the game into extra innings.
After loading the bases in the eighth, the Vikings walked it off with a single to win the game 3-2.
The teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m. Mountain time, picking up where they left off in game two.
