PORTLAND, Ore. - The Southern Utah softball team was swept by Portland State Saturday as they lost both games of a doubleheader, 2-6 and 1-8.
The Thunderbirds had just six hits between the two games and scored just three runs. Mikelle Magalogo had two doubles in game one and had the only two RBIs in the game. Makall Whetten was the only other Thunderbird with multiple hits on the day with one in each game. She also scored a run in game one.
Southern Utah scored first in game one as Magalogo hit a double to the fence that scored runners from second and third.
It was all Vikings after that as they scored six runs over the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings while holding the Thunderbirds scoreless the rest of the game.
After PSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a home run in the finale, the Thunderbirds tied things up in the third inning as Hannah Williams scored on a wild pitch.
The Vikings then reclaimed their lead in the bottom of the inning with one run and then exploded for six runs in the sixth to make it 8-1.
The Thunderbirds will play BYU in Provo on Wednesday April 24 before hosting Idaho State at Kathryn Berg Field from April 26-27.
