Softball Drops Series Finale to Idaho State

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team wrapped up a three-game series with Idaho State Saturday afternoon with a 7-3 loss.

Makall Whetten, Madison Carr, and Mikelle Magalogo all had two hits in the game. Whetten and Magalogo both scored a run and Carr had a RBI. Kendall Kapitzke went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

The Bengals scored at least one run in every inning except for the fifth and sixth innings. They hit two home runs in the game, both solo shots, and scored three runs in the fourth inning, all with two outs.

The Thunderbirds scored in both the first and fifth innings. Carr tied the game in the first with a RBI single after Whetten led off the game with a triple. Kapitzke's home run in the fifth inning made it 6-3 after the Bengals jumped out to a five-run lead.

Southern Utah is now 4-11 in Big Sky play and sit one game behind Northern Colorado who is 5-12. The Bears are officially done with their season with a bye next weekend while the Thunderbirds will host Montana for a three-game series. They will need to pass UNC in the standings in order to clinch a spot in the Big Sky Championship Tournament.
