Thunderbird Volleyball Announces 2019 Schedule

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird volleyball program and head coach Pete Hoyer have released the team's 2019 schedule, announcing 30 games including a non-conference home tournament.
 
"We are excited about the 2019 season" says Hoyer. "We were able to expand our home schedule and allow our amazing fan base to come out and support us in mid-September. We have some great pre-season competition lined up that we feel will prepare us well for Big Sky play."
 
The Thunderbirds will open the 2019 season in Logan, Utah where they will compete in the Utah State Tournament playing Xavier, Eastern Michigan and Utah State (August 30-31).

Southern Utah will then host the Thunderbird Classic which will include matchups against St. Mary's,  Middle Tennessee State University and Boise State University. (September 5-7).

Following their home tournament, the Thunderbirds compete in two more non-conference tournaments, the first of which being the Florida Atlantic University Tournament. In Florida they will face FAU, Bethune Cookman and Boston College (September 13-14).
SUU will wrap up non-conference play at the University of Nevada Tournament where they will play University of Nevada, California Baptist and Gonzaga.

The Thunderbirds will open their Big Sky Conference competition at home against Idaho State on September 26, then meet conference rivals Weber State at home on September 28 (homecoming weekend).

The next week they will travel to Sacramento State on October 3 and Portland State on October 5. The Thunderbirds will then return home to play University of Montana on October 10 and Montana State University on October 12.


Heading back on the road to play two days in a row, SUU will face Eastern Washington on October 17 and University of Idaho on October 18. Coming home for one game on October 21, the Thunderbirds will play Northern Arizona University. Then SUU will head out on their longest road stint of the season playing Northern Colorado on October 26, Weber State on October 31 and Idaho State on November 2.

The next week at home the Thunderbirds will see Portland State and Sacramento State for the second time this season on November 7 and 9. The last away matchups of the season will be in Montana where SUU will face Montana State November 14 and University of Montana November 16.

Wrapping up the season at home the Thunderbirds will play their final regular season Big Sky Conference games against University of Idaho on November 21 and Eastern Washington University on November 23.
