The Thunderbirds held a lead in both games, leading 2-1 in the first game and 3-2 in the second. After the Wildcats scored first in the opening inning of game one, Whetten and Ball both singled home runs to make it 2-1. The Wildcats took the lead and the win in the fifth inning on a two-run single from Faith Hoe.
Game two was a little bit more of a back-and-forth affair for the two teams. The Thunderbirds scored first in the third inning on another RBI single from Whetten. The Wildcats took the lead in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1.
In the fourth inning, Weaver hit her first career home run to tie the game and then Williams hit a solo shot to make it 3-2.
The Wildcats tied it up again in the fifth before taking a four-run lead on a grand slam from Lauren Hoe.
Down to their final three outs, the Thunderbirds started a seventh-inning rally that culminated in a three-run shot by Kapitzke to make it 7-6 WSU. They would be able to score again as the Wildcats took the game and the series.
The two teams will play the series finale tomorrow at noon at Wildcat Softball Field.
