Women’s Track & Field Claims Third At Big Sky Championships

MISSOULA, Mont. -- The Thunderbird women's track and field program finished in third place at the 2019 Big Sky Conference Championship meet, led by a number of impressive performances.

Angie Nickerson claimed Big Sky individual titles on back-to-back days, claiming a 5,000-meter title on Saturday with a time of 15:46.02. Alison Pray finished fourth in the event and Sharlie Dimick finished in fifth.

Nickerson claimed the 10K title on Friday.

Dimick claimed an individual championship in the women's 1,500-meter with a time of 4:26.42. Pray finished second in the event with a 4:30.07.

Linnea Saltz won the women's section of the 800-meter with time of 2:07.63 earning a gold medal for herself.

The women's 4x100 team ran a 46.08 for the Thunderbirds, which was the second-fastest time in the history of the program and claimed four silver medals for SUU's student-athletes.

Relay success continued for the T-Birds in the 4x400, as they finished with a 3:44.66 which was also the second-fastest time in school history.

Ogochukwu Nwachukwu competed in the first event of the day, and finished with the silver medal in the women's hammer throw with a 193' 6".

In the women's 100-meter dash Rakayla Tyler claimed a third place finish for the Thunderbirds, finishing with a time of 12.20. Mia

In the women's discus Amy Pouliot claimed the bronze medal for the Thunderbirds, throwing a 152' 3'' for SUU.

Mia Russell finished fifth for SUU in the 200-meter dash with a 25.12.

Laura Kehr finished in seventh in the women's 400 with a 56.69.

Former Thunderbird gymnast Emily Wilson also scored a point for SUU, setting a new school record with a triple jump of 38' 5 ½".

"The amount of improvement we've seen from this women's team over the last couple years has been incredible," SUU head coach Eric Houle said. "We're becoming not only a conference power but a national power, and I can't wait to see where we go from here."

The T-Birds finished just one point behind Weber State.
