Scott Munro Named Southern Utah’s Faculty Athletics Representative

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Southern Utah University Athletics has announced the appointment of Scott Munro as the University's Faculty Athletics Representative.

"I appreciate Dr. Munro's willingness to spend time to make sure our student athletes succeed with their studies and life goals," Southern Utah University Scott L Wyatt said. "His commitment, along with that of all our other faculty and staff members, underlines the focus SUU places on keeping our priorities in line. Our leading goals include the health, wellness, and academic success of all our students."

Munro is an Associate Professor of Engineering at SUU.

"I have always enjoyed college athletics, I think it's part of the college experience, whether as a fan or a student-athlete," Munro said. "I have had several athletes in class, and I have gained an appreciation for how hard they work. They are great kids, and I enjoy helping them succeed academically. Serving as the FAR gives me an opportunity to work with more athletes with different majors and different interests. I am honored to have been chosen to help them succeed at SUU."

Dr. Joe Baker previously served in the role of FAR for SUU Athletics.

"We greatly appreciate Joe Baker serving in this capacity for the last few years," Director of Athletics Debbie Corum said. "Joe was an advocate for the student-athlete and often attended our athletic events. Yet, it is with great anticipation that we welcome Scott Munro as our new FAR. Scott has immediately immersed himself into the role and will be an active participant on campus and within the Big Sky governance structure. Thanks to both of these professors for taking on extra responsibilities to assist in the success of the student-athlete."

Prior to joining Southern Utah University in 2015, Dr. Munro worked at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division in China Lake, California. His responsibilities included providing test support and program guidance to Navy programs relative to acoustic noise. He served as chief engineer for the Counter Air Future Naval Capability (CAFNC) program, developing an advanced rocket motor for the AMRAAM missile and was program manager for the In-House Independent Research (ILIR) program, NAWCWD's largest basic research program. At SUU, Dr. Munro teaches engineering courses including statics, fluids, and vibrations. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue University, both in aeronautical and astronautical engineering. From Georgia Institute of Technology, he earned his Ph.D. in aerospace engineering.
