CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah Athletics continues to prove its commitment to excellence in the classroom as 42 Thunderbird student-athletes were named to the 2025 Academic All-WAC Team for fall sports, the Western Athletic Conference announced Wednesday.
The Academic All-WAC honor recognizes student-athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically. To be eligible, nominees must have completed at least one academic year, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, and participate in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
Southern Utah's 42 selections were part of a conference-wide group of 317 honorees spanning six fall sports. WAC football members competing in the United Athletic Conference led all sports with 89 total selections, followed by women's soccer (64) and men's soccer (49).
The strong showing reflects the department's ongoing emphasis on academic achievement and holistic student-athlete development. From the field to the classroom, the Thunderbirds continue to set the standard for what it means to represent Southern Utah University.
"Our student-athletes work tirelessly to balance the demands of competition and academics," said Interim Director of Athletics Tom Higbee. "Having 42 Thunderbirds recognized by the WAC is a testament to their discipline, commitment, and the incredible support provided by our coaches, faculty, and academic services staff."
