ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Following a cancelation of the second round at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird invitational, the Southern Utah women's golf team has claimed the event title by leading the tournament at the end of the first round.
This is Southern Utah's first team victory of the 2019-20 season. SUU last won a tournament at the 2017 Battle at Boulder Creek.
Southern Utah carded a 296 as a team, finishing one shot ahead of South Dakota State, who shot a 297.
Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan shot the lowest round for SUU, carding a 73. She finished play in a tie for sixth.
Seniors Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong and Kyla Smith finished tied for 10th on the leaderboard, after shooting a 74.
Launa Wilson finished fourth for SUU and tied for 16th, carding a 75.
Tori Thomas rounded out SUU's lineup, shooting a 79.
As individuals, Hayden Harris shot a 77 to place tied for 23rd and Lexi Hamel shot an 80 to finish tied for 44th.
