LOGAN, Utah - For the second time this season, the Southern Utah gymnastics team has swept the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference weekly awards, including all four Specialists and Gymnast of the Week.
Karley McClain was named MRGC Gymnast of the Week for the second-consecutive week after setting a new career-high in the all-around with a 39.525 in the Flippin' Birds' win over Pittsburgh. Her score is tied for the third-highest in program history and the highest in 10 years. It is also the second-highest mark in the MRGC this season, just behind Shannon Evans' 39.550 set two weeks ago.
Morgan Alfaro was named MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week for the third time this season after scoring a career-high 9.925 in the win over the Panthers. The junior is ranked fifth in the MRGC on the event with a NQS of 9.825.
Becky Rozsa-Thompson was named MRGC Co-Bars Specialist of the Week for the second time in her career after scoring a 9.900 against the Panthers. The senior is ranked fifth in the conference on the event with a NQS of 9.845.
Autumn Jorgensen was named MRGC Co-Beam Specialist of the Week for the third time in her career after scoring a career-high 9.925 on senior night against Boise State. The senior helped the Flippin' Birds hit their highest mark on the event as a team so far this season with a 49.275.
Madison McBride and Karley McClain were both named MRGC Co-Floor Specialist of the Week as McClain scored a 9.925 against Pitt and McBride scored a 9.925 against Boise State. This is the fourth floor award of the season for McClain and the first for McBride. McBride is ranked second in the conference and 50th in the nation on floor with a NQS of 9.875.
The Thunderbirds will hit the road this week for a rematch with Boise State on Thursday March 5.
