CEDAR CITY, Utah -- The Thunderbird men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon have announced the signing of Marquis Moore, a transfer guard/forward from Detroit Mercy.
"We are very excited to add Marquis to the program," Simon. "He is a long, versatile guard with an ability to connect from three as well as attack and get to the free throw line. The redshirt year will help us add to his game and his two years of college experience will be an asset when he hits the floor."
Moore was a major impact player for Detroit Mercy over the past two seasons.
As a freshman in 2018-19, he appeared in 20 games and made seven starts. He averaged 3.4 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.
As a sophomore during the 2019-20 season, his production increased by quite a bit. He saw action in all 31 games, making 28 starts. His average scoring made a large jump, as he averaged 8.3 ppg. His rebounding average of 4.8 made him third on his team in both categories respectively.
He finished his second season in Detroit with a 35 percent three-point shooting percentage.
His free throw shooting percentage of 85 percent was second on the team and put him eighth all time in school history.
Through the season he scored a career-high of 20 points against Cleveland State, and posted two double-doubles.
During his prep years, his senior season was spent at Woodstock Academy in Connecticut, playing on a team that had nine players earn Division I scholarships. That team won 35 games, a Power 5 Conference AAA title and earned a trip to the national prep championship semifinals. During that time he averaged 9.6 ppg and 4.0 rpg.
Moore will have to sit out the 2020-21 season due to NCAA transfer rules, but will be eligible for the 2021-22 season. He will have two seasons of eligibility to participate for the Thunderbirds.
