CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Each week throughout the offseason the Leavitt Group will highlight a student-athlete from Southern Utah University that has made a positive impact on their program and the institution. This week's Student-Athlete Spotlight is focused on men's basketball player John Knight III.
Knight III transferred from Utah State University, and had an immediate impact last season as a junior.
He appeared in 31 contests, playing in 816 minutes and making 16 starts.
Knight III averaged 12.6 points per game, and finished the season as the team's second-leading scorer behind only Cameron Oluyitan. He scored 391 total points.
Along with scoring the ball, he was a good distributor throughout the season. He led the team with 92 assists, and finished 10th in the Big Sky with that number.
On the free throw line, Knight III led the team with 125 made attempts. He finished seventh in the Big Sky for FT percentage.
Knight III scored a career-high 24 points against Weber State.
As the Thunderbirds start making preparations for the 2020-21 season, Knight III figures to be a major part of the Thunderbirds lineup once again.
