CEDAR CITY, Utah -- In the third week of the NFL regular season one former Thunderbird football player made a massive play for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Near the end of the third quarter, LeShaun Sims picked off Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz to keep his team in the lead. Wentz, like Sims, is another alum of an FCS program.
Sims was making his first appearance of the 2020 campaign, and did so in impressive fashion. He was also credited with a deflected pass and two solo tackles on Sunday afternoon.
The Bengals and Eagles ended in a stalemate following the overtime period, 23-23.
Sims now has three career interceptions in 57 total games as a member of the National Football League. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans.
This upcoming weekend, Sims and the Bengals will square off at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Elsewhere in the NFL, Miles Killebrew was credited with his first tackle of the 2020 season on Sunday, as his Detroit Lions knocked off the Arizona Cardinals 26-23.
Killebrew now has 94 career tackles in 66 appearances. The former T-Bird is now in his fifth season with the Detroit Lions.
Next up for the Lions is a date at home with Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
